Österreichische Tourismustage 2020

Three themes, four days, 1,200 visitors – the Österreichische Tourismustage event is set to take place from 25 to 28 May 2020, this time in the Austria Center Vienna. The occasion is once again being organised jointly by the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism, the Austrian Economic Chamber’s Federal Department for Tourism and the Leisure Industry and the Austrian National Tourist Office. It will provide a setting for the Austrian Travel Business (ATB) sales fair, the high-quality Wissenscampus for knowledge transfer, talks with other branch members and discussions regarding current tourism policy issues. The website is available online as of now.

Under the motto “Creating remarkable experiences”, the Österreichische Tourismustage will take place once again from 25 to 28 May 2020. Across a total of four days, national and international experts will draw inspiration for cooperative and creative tourism concepts of the future, product innovation at the highest level and the Austrian tourism industry’s broad range of services.

ATB to be held as part of Österreichische Tourismustage for the first time

The ATB has been the largest tourism fair in Austria for decades and is the ideal platform for networking, the initiation of business deals and the deepening of customer relationships. This year, the Austrian National Tourist Office is hosting ATB as part of the Österreichische Tourismustage for the first time. The focus is on sales promotion, innovation and digitalisation, and more than 400 Austrian exhibitors will meet with international buyers and journalists. Besides the sales discussions at the fair, the ATB will provide attractive opportunities for networking. These include the opening evening, which is taking place in cooperation with the Vienna Tourist Board in Vienna’s town hall, and at the hospitality suites at various locations in Vienna on Tuesday evening. On the final day of the ATB, international participants will have the opportunity to learn about the diverse range of holidays on offer first-hand on numerous tours through Austria.

At the Markets Day on Monday afternoon, around 150 partners will meet with Austrian National Tourist Office staff from its offices all over the world and from the Partner Management division in Vienna. Besides the communication of market knowledge, participants will receive information regarding the Austrian National Tourist Office’s digitalisation offensive and cooperations.

Wissenscampus with top speakers and industry experts

The focus will be on fundamental questions to do with tourism at the Wissenscampus in 2020. How will digitalisation influence the future of travel? In a world of multitasking, how can we work in a way which is suitable for the brain? Which megatrends are influencing our eating behaviour? Is there a “formula” for optimal storytelling? The Wissenscampus will prove to be as varied, diverse and colourful as the tourism industry itself, and visitors can look forward to an entire day of superb presentations from leading experts. Besides discussions focused on questions such as the above and concrete solutions for every single participant, the Wissenscampus being held by the Federal Department for Tourism and the Leisure Industry of the Austrian Economic Chamber will provide ample opportunity for networking. Entrance to the Wissenscampus is free.

A further step towards the implementation of ‘Plan T’

In 2019, the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism presented ‘Plan T – Master Plan for Tourism’ as Austria’s new national tourism strategy. The Österreichische Tourismustage constitutes an important step in the implementation of this masterplan as it will provide the federal government, the federal states, companies and highly diverse interest groups and branches with the opportunity to engage in professional exchange. The bundling of competencies and resources and the joint development of tourism products are particularly vital for the tourism sector given it is comprised of small-scale structures. The planned talks on tourism policy topics will provide an opportunity for coordination as well as joint strategic positioning. The Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism is inviting to a professional exchange of ideas and get-together at the end of the first day of the ATB and after the Wissenscampus on 26 May.

“The Digital Marketplace” by NETA

Digitalisation is without doubt the greatest challenge facing the tourism industry. For this reason, the Austrian National Tourist Office has launched the future initiative “Next Level Tourism Austria” (NETA) supported by special funds made available by the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism. Its goals include the dissemination of knowledge about relevant digital developments, the enhancement of digital competencies when working with data and the networking of the Austrian tourism branch with relevant players. NETA will present itself at a “Digital Marketplace” on 25 and 26 May at the Austrian Days of Tourism. Around 15 companies will introduce their innovative solutions for the branch there.

TravelTEC Expo: IT-solutions for Austrian tourism enterprises

The TravelTEC Expo will also take place as part of the Österreichische Tourismustage on 25 May. This is the first Austrian trade exhibition which will exclusively present IT solutions for Austrian tourism companies. There will be a broad spectrum of vendors present, including those who are well-known within the branch as well as specialists and start-ups who will also introduce their solutions. The exhibition will be supplemented with a live forum at which vendors will showcase the highlights of their solutions.

You can find the entire programme overview and comprehensive information about the Austrian Days of Tourism event as of now at www.tourismustage.at/en. In preparation for the event, blog contributions regarding the event’s topics and speakers will be published on the site on an ongoing basis.
