1000things is the largest online platform entirely dedicated to inspiration in Austria. Each month, more than 3 million people come in contact with our recommendations. To reach our audience, we use a broad network of different channels and platforms to publish relevant and suitably edited content. For each 1000things channel, we created a different content strategy which allows us to inspire tens of thousands of people in the whole country every day. What we have noticed: Today’s trends clearly move away from traditional sight-seeing spots and on towards remarkable experiences that can also be digitally traced and lived.

It is crucial for every tourism destination of the future to use different channels and publish different and channel-appropriate content on each of those platforms – and learn how to profit from them, also with regard to data management. To successfully reach the users out there, the way content is edited and published has to differ according to the (social media) channel’s target audience. Anyone who fails to understand this will sooner or later fall by the (digital) wayside.

Jan Pöltner: founder and CEO of 1000things
Jan Pöltner studied journalism & media management at FH Wien and started his own business while still attending university. At the end of 2013, he founded the Facebook page 1000 things to do in Vienna that generated 60.000 likes over the course of first three days: the accidental kickoff for the largest inspiration platform in Austria. Since then, 1000things has grown into a company with 20 employees, who are constantly on the lookout for the best activities Austria has to offer – together with Pöltner himself and the 1000things community.
